No Time to Serve?

Question of the Week: What if I don't have time to serve?

Time. We have a limited amount that is given to us by God. In fact, it is a very limited amount when we look at Scripture. James 4 tells us, "What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes." We think we have all the time in the world, but God knows we don't, and you know who else knows we don't have a lot of time? Satan

I recently heard a speaker who asked, "You do know what BUSY stands for, don't you? It stands for Being Under Satan's Yoke." I've also heard, "If the devil can't make you bad, he'll make you busy." Being busy with Kingdom work is one thing, but just being busy keeps you from fully living in Christ. We may think we don't have anymore time to give, but I challenge you to sit down and write out your weekly schedule with everything that you do in a given week. I'm sure you could find some time each day that you could use to intentionally serve.

Also, consider that once you give your life to Jesus, he gets it ALL. So really, it's ALL God's time; you should be willing to do what he has for you to do at any time. It shouldn't be that we don't have time for God, or for serving - it's all God's time, just like all our money is God's money. We are to be stewards of both of these resources he's given us.

So, the time you have is not your own. It's God's. How does He want you to spend it? Maybe you'll have to cut out some things from your day, so that you can give that time back to God. I guarantee you that you have the time to serve. Maybe the real question here is, "What if I don't want to serve?"

  2. What you do with your time - how you spend it - is a reflection of your priorities. If you value your education you'll likely find that you spend a fair amount of time doing your homework and making sure it's done well. If you value being physically fit, you'll find you spend time working out and exercising. If you value your friends, you're probably spending time developing relationships with them. You get the point.

So if you value your faith, your love of God, you'll likely find yourself looking for ways to spend your time doing the things He values. Like serving.

On the other hand you say that you don't have time to serve, but find yourself spending a fair amount of time playing video games, for example, your priorities are clearly not on God. They're on yourself. You value your "me time" more than you value the needs of others. Is that really where you wanted your priorities to be?

So there's really no such thing as no time to serve. There's only "not making time" to serve. It's just a matter of priority.

  3. you don't have to take time out of your day to serve. You can do it while you are having a study hall in class. Say your working on the same math homework as your partner. To serve you can ask them if they need any help. Or if you see anyone struggling with their books you can ask them if you could help them with it. And as my dad said it is a matter of priority. God should be your focus and to show that to him you can serve others.

It not really based on your time, but on you mindset and willing spirit. other than that I think my dad had it spot on.

  4. hi this is Adam
I think if you have no time to serve then you should do those little things that is in a servents heart. for example for me i play hockey so if somebody is bored and has nobody to talk to you could go talk to them, encouraging could be another way to serve,
